  • Direct Speech

In direct narration, the speaker’s exact words are quoted and enclosed in quotation marks. This type of narration is often used to provide a vivid and exact account of what someone said.

Examples:

The teacher said, ‘The earth is round.’

He said, ‘Honesty is the best policy.’
  • Indirect Speech

In indirect narration, the speaker’s words are reported without quotation marks, and the sentence structure changes to fit the grammar of the reporting clause. This often involves changes in pronouns, verb tense, and time expressions.

Examples:

The teacher said that the earth is round.
He said that honesty is the best policy.
