January 13, 2023 by Souvik Leave a Comment

Name and Early Life: Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi all over the world was born at Porbandar, Gujarat, on 2nd October, 1869. His father’s name was Karamchand Gandhi and his mother Putlibai, was a saintly and gentle woman.LIFE OF A GREAT MAN ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ Essay

Mohandas went to an elementary school at Porbandar. When he was seven years old, his family moved to Rajkot. He attended a primary school there and later he joined a high school. As a student, he belonged to the mediocre category. He was very shy and timid by nature. When he attained the age of thirteen only, he married Kasturibai who was also of the same age. After passing the matriculation examination, Gandhi made up his mind to go to England to study law.

His Activities and Services: After having completed Gandhi’s education on law, he returned to India in 1891. He decided to stay in Bombay to set up his legal practice there. But he failed to establish himself in Bombay and went back to Rajkot. In 1893, Gandhi went to South Africa in search of fortune. Then in 1915, he finally returned to India with his noble heart to serve his people. He set up his Satyagrah Ashram on the bank of the river Sabarmati, Then in 1919, he joined the Indian politics. In 1920, he started non-violence and non-cooperation movement against the British.LIFE OF A GREAT MAN ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ Essay

Like a magician, Gandhi roused a storm of enthusiasm in the country with his call to non-cooperation. During his struggles for the freedom of India, he was arrested and jailed several times by the British. However, his unfatigued body and high spirit was able to guide the people to attain independence from the British. Thus, on August 15, 1947 the Indians got their long cherished independence.

Why I admire him: Not only I but all of the Indians love and admire Gandhi who is known as Bapu i.e. the father of the nation. It is due to Gandhi’s true leadership and guidance, we have got our freedom. He is the symbol of truthfulness and honesty and has shown the people of the world that non-violence is more powerful than swords or destructive weapons. So, I admire this great soul.

His virtues and Idels: Gandhi’s virtues and idealism have spread all over the world. Gandhi was a devoted son to his parents. He used to serve his father as a nurse just after the school was over. Again, he felt repentance of his faults. He wrote a letter of confession of his faults to his father and promised never to commit those mistakes again. As he wanted to go to England, his mother was against his will. Then also, he promised to his mother never to touch meet, wine and woman. He was very polite; and tolerant. He did not even hate his enemies.LIFE OF A GREAT MAN ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ Essay

Conclusion: On January 30, 1948, when Gandhi hurriedly went up the few steps of the prayer ground in the large park of the Birla House, a young Hindu. Nathuram Godsey by name, fired three point-blank shots from a small automatic pistol aimed at the heart. Gandhi fell, his lips uttering the name of God (Hey Ram). Thus the heart that had beaten only in love for humanity had stopped for ever.LIFE OF A GREAT MAN ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ Essay
